According to an income tax department source, the total tax collection of the center, including advance tax collection for the second quarter, fell by 22.5% to Rs.2,53,532.3 Crore till September 15 of the current fiscal year as compared to the previous year’s time period.

According to some details shared by the source regarding the provisional data, during the same period the previous year until September 2019, the total tax collection was Rs.3,27,320.2 Crore. However, the advanced tax numbers were not shared by the source. The numbers are provisional, as the banks will update the final data soon.

This year during the first quarter ended June, gross tax collections fell by 31%, driven down by a huge 76% plunge in advance tax mop-up due to the full lockdown implemented all across the country due to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
